Sprint Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge Receive Wi-Fi Calling Improvements Update (VPU2APE1)

Sprint's Galaxy S7 and S7 edge is getting an update today. The said update will bring additional improvements to Wi-Fi Calling as well as the battery life. It is also mentioned that update carries the May's security patches, noting that this devices will receive the security update in monthly basis. While the rest are several bug fixes to which did not technically indicated in the released notes.

The firmware build version came out as MMB29M.G930TUVS3APD8 for the Galaxy S7 while on the S7 Edge, the build version is G935TUVU3APD8. Both updates for each devices weighs at just around 50 MB in size. This is the third Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update and the 3rd security update for the carrier's galaxy S7 and S7 edge lineup.

How to update the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge via Over-The-Air:

  • Ensure your battery is fully charged before starting the software update. This is a must and very important part to get rid of some issues if ever the software update being interrupted due to a power failure.
  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu Key > Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check for Updates.
  2. If your device finds a new software update, tap Download now. When complete, a screen will appear advising you that the new version of software is ready to be installed. Tap Install update.
  3. The device will power down and power back on. A screen will appear stating that the installation has been completed. Tap OK.
  4. You’ve successfully updated your software.

How to Update the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Thru Smart Switch?

The second method is a firmware update through Samsung Smart Switch for PC. You may head over to your  local Samsung support page from where you can download the Smart Switch from there, and install it in your PCs or Mac computer. Once you installed the Smart Switch, all you need is connect your Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge into your PC using the USB data cable, then simply run and follow Smart Switch on-screen’s software update instruction.

For those who have a rooted Galaxy S7 or S7 edge, you folks might need to download the stock firmware itself – Galaxy S7 Firmware, as you may no longer get the Over The air update as long as your device has been rooted or modified .  This process will completely unroot and remove any modification in your Galaxy S7 and S7 edge phone and restores it back to its official or factory default firmware.
