To check for the availability of these updates, simply head on to your device settings. From Home screen > tap on Settings > About device and then Check for the update.
How to update Galaxy S7 and a Galaxy S7 Edge via Over-The-Air:
- Ensure your battery is fully charged before starting the software update. This is a must and very important part to get rid of some issues if ever the software update being interrupted due to a power failure.
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu Key > Settings > About device > Software updates > Check for Updates.
- If your device finds a new software update, tap Download now. When complete, a screen will appear advising you that the new version of software is ready to be installed. Tap Install update.
- The device will power down and power back on. A screen will appear stating that the installation has been completed. Tap OK.
- You’ve successfully updated your software.
How to Update Using Smart Switch for PC
The second method is a firmware update through Samsung Smart Switch for PC. You may head over to Samsung support page to where you can download the Smart Switch for PC, and then install it in your PC or Mac computer. Once you installed the Smart Switch, all you need is connect your Samsung Galaxy S7 or a S7 edge into your PC using the USB data cable, then simply run and follow Smart Switch on-screen’s software update instruction.
- Connect the USB data cable to a compatible USB port on your computer.
- Connect the other end of the USB data cable to your phone.
- Allow your computer to install any required drivers for your device. This process may take a few minutes.
- Open Smart Switch on your computer, and allow it to make the connection.
- If a software update is available for your device, Smart Switch will automatically prompt you to update. At any time, you can click Update.
- Click Update to begin downloading the necessary files.
- Click OK to proceed.Your device may turn off and on a few times during the update process. Once complete the device will return to the Home screen.
