October 2017 Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Updates aka The Blueborne Fix

Since we haven't seen massive updates on Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge last month. It was supposed to be the released of the September 2017 security updates, but for unknown reasons there was only few devices receives the said monthly security patches.  But here goes the end of October, and hopefully we have seen that each devices got an update treatments.

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge October security updates hasn't came alone. The update is also accompanied with Bluetooth vulnerability security patches dubbed as the "BlueBorne" fix.

The Blueborne were recently published by Armis Labs. and it defines how vulnerable and allows attackers to take control of devices via Bluetooth connection.
BlueBorne is an attack vector by which hackers can leverage Bluetooth connections to penetrate and take complete control over targeted devices. BlueBorne affects ordinary computers, mobile phones, and the expanding realm of IoT devices.

Here comes the updates of each devices, just make sure you may have one of these updates to ensure that your precious data stored in your device would not  get compromise by attackers. However, if you won't take the update, then you may not use the Bluetooth at all.  But, if you are an avid user of that Bluetooth feature in your devices, then you should considerably update it right now.

Yet another month has passed and so does another monthly Android security patch updates coming Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.  This time around, it is Sprint pushing the April 1, 2017 Android security patch level on its Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. Sprint Galaxy S7 (SM-G930P) will now move its current Android 7.0 Nougat OS to version G930PVPU4BQD2 from G930PVPS4BQC1. While the Galaxy S7 edge  (SM-G935P) will also bump to version G935PVPU4BQD2 from G935PVPS4BQC1.

Sprint is simultaneously rolling out an OTA updates on Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. The updates is not the Android Nougat yet but still in Android Marshmallow based. While judging by its size, it seemingly not just a minor OTA update that brings the usual monthly security patches, but it will also definitely brings several improvements for the device. While according to Sprint, the update contains the December Android security patches but it also includes the network performance improvements and general bug fixes.

Furthermore, Sprint Galaxy S7 update came out build version G930PVPU4APL6. While the Galaxy S7 edge on the other hand received the build version G935PVPU4APL6. Both updates are now deployed via Over-The-Air OTA only and isn't released via Smart Switch yet.

Sprint Galaxy S7 is getting an OTA update dubbed as build version G930PVPU4APL6. The update is still in Android Marshmallow based and not the final Nougat update yet. The said update includes several stability improvements such as  LTE, WiFi and Hotspot. The battery life performance is also significantly improved. Sprint Galaxy S7 and S7 edge has gotten another Android security patch update. Sprint Galaxy S7 and S7 edge is getting SMS over WiFi and August/September Security Patch Update [G930PVPU2APH7]

Sprint has rolled out a security patch update for Galaxy S7 and S7 edge to which covers the month of August and September 2016 fixes.  The update will bring the Touch improvements, as well as it also enable the Short Message Service (SMS) over WiFi, and it has several fixes including the Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi), Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and the Additional SOS message issues. The second method is a firmware update through Samsung Smart Switch for PC. You may head over to your  local Samsung support page from where you can download the Smart Switch from there, and install it in your PCs or Mac computer. Once you installed the Smart Switch, all you need is connect your Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge into your PC using the USB data cable, then simply run and follow Smart Switch on-screen’s software update instruction.

For those who have a rooted Galaxy S7 or S7 edge, you folks might need to download the stock firmware itself – Galaxy S7 Firmware, and Galaxy S7 edge  Firmware, as you may no longer get the Over The air update as long as your device has been rooted or modified .  This process will completely unroot and remove any modification in your Galaxy S7 and S7 edge phone and restores it back to its official or factory default firmware.

Sprint Galaxy S7 and S7 edge July Security Patch Update (VPS2APG1)

The July security patch update is now heading its way to Sprint Galaxy S7 and S7 edge users in the United States. As it is briefly noted, the update brings nothing more any new features but mainly the said Android security patches only. This released will address more than 40 Android security vulnerabilities, including the vulnerability in audio service, according to an Android security bulletin. But there are no exploitation of the said vulnerabilities has yet been reported, the bulletin said.

The update weighs at 47 MB in size and the rolling out starts from July 21 and will be completed by August 5, 2016. It will arrive as build version MMB29M.G930PVPS2APG1 for the Galaxy S7, and MMB29M.G935PVPS2APG1 on Galaxy S7 edge.

Sprint's Galaxy S7 and S7 edge is getting an update today. The said update will bring additional improvements to Wi-Fi Calling as well as the battery life. It is also mentioned that update carries the May's security patches, noting that this devices will receive the security update in monthly basis.
