The Samsung Galaxy S7 has received the monthly Android security updates. This time, we are going to tackle an update that contains the May 1, 2017 Android Security Patch Level.

What New in May 2017 Android Security Updates


The May 2017 Android device monthly Security Maintenance Release (SMR) brings 50 patches from Google and 11 from Samsung's vulnerabilities and exposures, according to Samsung Mobile Security Bulletin.

US Unlocked Galaxy G930U and S7 edge G935U March 2017 Security Patch Updates

There is an update recently hitting the factory unlocked variant of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in the United States. Unfortunately, these updates aren't that much awaited Android 7.0 Nougat upgrade yet, but still in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow base. It only brings the March 1, 2017 Android security patches, some bug-fixes and further improvements to the device performance.

The Galaxy S7 (SM-G930U) receives an update to build version G930UUES4AQC1 from previous released version G930UUEU4APL2. While the Galaxy S7 edge (SM-G935U) on the other hand, bumped-up to build version G935UUES4AQC1 from G935UUEU4APL4.

US Unlocked Galaxy S7 and S7 edge New Updates to G930UUEU4APL2 & G935UUEU4APL4

Samsung is rolling out new updates on the US factory version of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. The update is not the Android Nougat update yet that we've been waiting for but still it came out as Android Marshmallow. The update is said to bring the December Android security patches and there is nothing any new features surrounds it.  But it also came along with some improvements in UI and the device general performance.

This update were released to all unlocked version of Samsung Galaxy S7 SM-G930U and the Galaxy S7 edge SM-G935U across the United States, whether its using Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular, T-Mobile, AT&T, Tracfone, Metro PCS, and Cricket SIM card.

G930UUEU4APL2 US Unlocked Galaxy S7 G930U Updates

A new update dubbed as build version G930UUEU4APL2 is heading it way to the unlocked Galaxy S7 SM-G930U in the United States.
The update includes the new Android security patches that covers the month of December 2016. The update also contains several bug-fixes for the device stability, along with general system enhancements and further improvements to performance. The update will be hitting all unlocked Galaxy S7 in the entire United States this week but the roll out will run for a couple of weeks.

Noting that this particular Galaxy S7 variant hasn't been receiving new updates for the past couple of months. It has been almost around three months long since this device receive the Android security updates. It all seems that this device will only get a quarterly security updates instead of the usual monthly basis.

The update came out as build version G930UUEU4API3 for the Galaxy S7 (SM-G930U) and for the galaxy S7 edge (SM-G935U) is build version G935UUEU4API3. Both devices has bumped up its Android Security patch level to September 1, 2016. Other than that there are no further new features seen in the update but it includes some minor system performance enhancements and general bug fixes.

US Unlocked Galaxy S7 & S7 edge August Security Patch Update (UEU2APG9)

The unlocked version of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will get an OTA update that brings the August security patches. You might have been noticed that this particular variant has not been receiving the monthly security maintenance release for about two months. The last security patch level of the two devices was on May 1, 2016, so this update will technically covers June, July and August security fixes. Aside from. This is only a minor update and you may not noticed any new changes or features but it deals with the device security to which is far more important for the users protection from malicious applications. The August security patches delivers at around 50 Google patches and provides 8 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures, according to Android Security Bulletin.

The update is dubbed as build version number MMB29M.G930UUEU2APG9 for the Galaxy S7 (SM-G930U), and build version MMB29M.G935UUEU2APG9 for the the Galaxy S7 edge (SM-G935U).
